Owen Woodrow McGINN

Owen Woodrow McGinn, age 74, of Ellershouse, Hants County, passed away peacefully on April 14th, 2013, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor.
Born on August 1st, 1938, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Woodrow and Isabel (Jones) McGinn.
Owen was a graduate of Queen Elizabeth High School and Dalhousie University, Halifax. He was employed in the meat industry by Swift’s, the N.S. Abattoir, Burns Meats Ltd. (Maritime Supervisor), Simons Meats, and Lester Foods Ltd. Owen was highly respected and well known throughout the Atlantic Provinces. After retiring, Owen enjoyed working for the Department of Culture and Heritage, as a Heritage Interpreter at the Shand and Haliburton Museums. He had a keen interest in people and enjoyed good conversation, long walks with family, wildlife, fishing, working in the woods and gardening. He was well known for his great interest and research in genealogy, and was always ready to assist others with similar interests.
Owen was a loving husband, father, and will be greatly missed by his wife of 47 years, the former Minnie Leopold; son, Adrian; brothers, David and Frank of Halifax; sisters, Alice (David) Spurrel, Vancouver, British Columbia; Isabel Brown-Bartlett, Enfield; Margaret (Robert) Lynch, Athens,Texas, USA; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Woodrow and Isabel (Jones) McGinn; he was predeceased his youngest sister, Eleanor Mason; brothers-in-law, Edward Mason, Harold Brown, and Bruce Bartlett.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, NS ~ B0N 2T0 (902-798-2233).
A private funeral service will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Owen may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
