HILTZ......

Elizabeth “Betty” Frances Hiltz (Crocker)

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Betty Hiltz of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at the age of 87, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor.

Born in Berwick, Kings County, Nova Scotia, she was the only daughter of the late Clifford and Helen (Chute) Crocker.

A dialysis patient for 12 years, mom travelled to and from Halifax three days a week in good weather and bad. Always active in the Windsor Baptist Church, she continued to serve even when her health limited what she was able to do. She was a Dominion Life member of the WMS, a member of the Merry Martha’s Auxiliary, a choir member, and a faithful member of the Quilting Group for many years. She will be remembered by many as the school secretary at Windsor Elementary where she worked for 30 years. She also received recognition for 25 years of volunteer service with the West Hants Unit of the Cancer Society.

Mom is survived by her brother, Bert (Helen) Crocker, Pinette, Prince Edward Island; her children, Karen (Dale) MacDonald of Windsor, Ron (Patricia) Hiltz of Hammonds Plains, and Kathy (Harley) Schofield of Windsor Forks; grandchildren, Jennifer MacDonald, Jason MacDonald, Gillian (Steve) Petty, Daniel (Kelly) Hiltz, Keith (Jen) Hiltz, Joshua (Amy) Schofield, Marci Schofield (Joey Swinamer) and Wray Schofield (Jessie Wells); and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Bonnie (Ron) Cole and daughters, of St. John’s, Newfoundland, who treated her as a second Mom and Nana.

Mom was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Harvey Hiltz (1974). She was also predeceased by her brothers, Gerald and George and their wives, Adeline and Shirley.

Always appreciative of her dialysis family and friends, Mom, as well as her family, was thankful for the many volunteers who drove her to Halifax over the past 12 years; a special thank you, to Grace and Rick. Mom will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her family and her many friends.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, B0N 2T0.

A private graveside service for immediate family only will follow a Memorial Service to be held in Windsor Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016.

A reception will be held at the church immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or to the Hants Community Hospital Foundation, Windsor.

The family extends their gratitude to the doctors and nurses of the Dialysis Unit at the VG Hospital for their special care over the years and to the Palliative Care Unit at the Hants Community Hospital for their care and compassion during this past week.

To add your condolences, click on “Contribute”.
