VERHOEVEN......

Franciska “Fran” Patricia Verhoeven,
age 59, of Union Corner, Hants County.

We are saddened for having lost, but better for having known wife, friend, sister, mother, grandmother, and animal lover, Franciska Verhoeven. Fran passed away on September 17, 2015, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, letting go after a struggle with liver cancer fought with grace.

Fran was born on December 23, 1955, in Delta, Ontario. Somewhere in the middle of a farming family of 10, Fran was the daughter of Frank and Maria (Sarizka) Verhoeven, who met towards the close of the Second World War and emigrated from Holland.

She will be fondly remembered for her generosity, humour, creativity, compassion and quiet flare for colour. Fran was a solver of crosswords, a trivia store, a crocheter, a crafter, a maker of gifts, a gardener, and the local squirrels and birds could not have had a better ally. She loved a walk through woods in all seasons with husband, children, grandchildren and pets, forever pets, in tow.

Fran is survived by husband, Douglas A. Brewster; children, Erin (John) and Brett; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Merrick, Rome, and Koa; siblings, Sophie, Dinie, Annie, Nellie, Rosemary, and Henry; and last but not least, Kitty, the last in a long line of truly lucky pets.

Fran was predeceased by her brother, Tony.

We can forever trust children to have the wisest words in hard times. As her grandson, Rome, stated: she is with her pets now.

A heartfelt thank you to the work of all medical and support staffs, including The Lodge that Gives, Hants Community Hospital, the Victoria Order of Nurses. A special thank you to Amber, of the palliative team at Hants Community Hospital, who demonstrated great compassion and skill at crucial moments.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015, in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 339 King Street, Windsor, with Rev. Father John MacPherson officiating, followed by a reception in the church hall.

Arrangement are under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, B0N 2T0.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Fran may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

To add your condolences, click on “Contribute".
