Willemyntje Kalt
December 31, 1924 - August 3, 2016
Willemyntje Kalt, (Willy) age 91, of Beaverbank, formerly of Windsor passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Ivy Meadows Continuing Care Beaverbank. Born on December 31, 1924 in the Netherlands, she was a daughter of the late Arie and Maria (Blom) Slot.
After growing up in Holland, Willy married in 1949 and moved to Sumatra Indonesia where two of her three children were born. After returning to Holland a third child was born. In 1956 the Kalt family moved to Canada to start a whole new life.
Willy was a dedicated mother, beautiful seamstress and a great cook. In her later years Mom became a road warrior travelling through Canada, the US and Mexico in her little Toyotas. Mom loved the open road. Willy was an avid reader and loved a good political discussion. We’ll remember mom as a free spirit always committed to living her values.
Willy is survived by sister, Riet Hanselaar and family,Holland; her son, Anton Kalt (Bette), Wolfville; their two daughters Sarah ( Shawn Wood) Ontario and Emma in Wolfville; daughters, Rita (Andrew) Connolly and Wilhelmina Kalt and a new great-grandson Liam.
Willy was predeceased by her husband Anton Kalt; sister, Dirkje Knevel and brother, Jan Slot.
Willy was buried on Monday, August 8, 2016 in the Starrs Point Cemetery, Kings County, Nova Scotia.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Lindsay Windsor Funeral Home (902-798-2232) 194 King Street, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0.
A celebration of Mom’s life will be held at MacLeod House, Empire Lane Windsor (near Sobeys) on Sunday August 21st from 2-4 pm.
