<div itemprop="description">COCHRANE...... <br> <br>Stuart Percy “Stu” Cochrane, age 97 of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016 in the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth. <br> <br>Born on February 15th, 1919, in Scotch Village, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was a son of the late Alfred and Daisy (Young) Cochrane. <br> <br>Stu was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in the Canadian Army for four years in the United Kingdom. He was discharged in 1946 and was a member of Hants County Branch No. 009, Royal Canadian Legion, Windsor. He was Postmaster of the Scotch Village Post Office for 33 years from 1948 to 1981. He along with his wife Marguerite, drove rural mail delivery for 18 years; owned and operated Cochrane’s Best Value General Store, Scotch Village for 16 years and they also operated the Frosty Treat for 4 years. Semi-retiring in 1981, they moved to Windsor, where he was a funeral assistant at Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home for twelve years and also worked for ten years with Rafuse Taxi and Donnie’s Taxi. <br> <br>Stu was a former executive of the Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department; served on the Board of Directors of the Victory Credit Union, Brooklyn; was chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Scotch Village Community Hall; Trustee of the Scotch Village Cemetery; a warden of the Scotch Village Union Church and a volunteer at the Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. He was an avid card player and a friend to all. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. <br> <br>Surviving are his daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” (Kenneth) McGill, New Minas; granddaughter, Kimberley Sweet, Port Williams; great grandchildren, Spencer Sweet, Emily Sweet; numerous nieces and nephews; <br> <br>Stu was predeceased by his wife, the former Marguerite Annie Wark (March 14th, 1994); son, Ronald “Ron” Cochrane; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Cochrane; eight sisters, Marion Barron; Mabel Trenholm; Carrie Salter; Alta Robbins; Hilda Northrup; May in infancy; Marguerite Smith and Norma Smith; four brothers, Wilfred Cochrane; Carleton Cochrane; Robert Cochrane and Gerald Cochrane. <br> <br>Stu’s family would like to extend appreciation and thanks to the staff and volunteers of the Windsor Elms Village for the wonderful care and love they gave to Stu over the years. <br> <br>Visitation will be from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2016 in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Box 2218 Windsor, NS B0N 2T0, where Hants County Branch No. 009 Royal Canadian Legion will hold their service at 2 p.m. <br> <br>Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Curry officiating.
