ROSS......

Robert (Bob) Armstrong Ross, 1930 – 2016,
of Windsor/Ste.Croix, Hants County.

Cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Bob left us peacefully on October 10, 2016. Born on October 19, 1930, and raised in Ste. Croix, Bob was the youngest child of the late Harry and Gladys (Spence) Ross.

As a teenager, Bob headed to Toronto where he worked for two years. As one of his other jobs when he was young, he was part of a crew that worked for a few months up North; working and living among the Inuit. Bob later returned to Ste. Croix and joined the Nova Scotia Power Corporation where he worked for 36 years before retiring in 1988. Bob loved sports – playing competitive baseball and hockey, and watching a game every chance he got. His story-telling skills were honed back at ‘Piney’ which was a favorite place for hunting, fishing, reading and playing cards with family and friends; especially his cousin, Glenn. Bob was an active community member and volunteer – coaching minor and open league hockey, and supporting the Avon Pony Club and the Ste. Croix United Church.

After retiring, Bob and his wife Maxine left in their motorhome to travel around Canada and the US – fulfilling his dream of fishing in the cold, deep lakes of Alaska and Yukon - and they spent fifteen winters in Florida where they made many friends. In the summers, they took their motorhome around the province, enjoying country music festivals. Bob was the kind of friend everyone wants to have; he was kind, laughed easily and was always there to help when needed; often coming up with an ingenious solution to a challenging problem. He was happiest in the woods at the end of a chain saw or on the water at the end of a fishing rod.

Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maxine (Lynch) Ross; children, Debbie Ross, Janet (Scott) Roberts, and Dougie (Josée) Ross; grandchildren, William and Nicholas Roberts, and Melanie Ross; sister, Vivian Howell; sister-in-law, Helen Ross; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sister, Jessie Beach, and brothers, Robie and John.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 13th from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Friday October 14th at 2 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Krista Anderson officiating, reception to follow.

Donations in memory of Bob, can be made to the Ste. Croix United Church or the charity of your choice.

Family flowers only.

To send your condolences to the family you can click on the contribute tab, at the top of Bob’s obituary page.
