Reverend Michael S. Boyd
It is with great sadness that his family announces the death of the Reverend Michael Stephen Boyd, age 61, of Halifax, on Thursday, January 31st, 2013.
Born in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Michael was the second son of Eric and the late Margaret (Smith) Boyd.
He was a graduate of Acadia University and the University of Toronto, Trinity College. Ordained as a priest of the Anglican Church of Canada on January 6th., 1977, at Trinity Anglican Church, Digby, by the Rt. Rev. Leonard Hatfield. Michael served parishes in Digby, French Village and Hantsport, retiring in July 2012 after serving St. Andrew's Parish in Hantsport for 31 years. Michael had a great love for his family, Anglican liturgy, choral and organ music, movies and summer sojourns in Petite Riviere.
Michael is survived by his father Eric and his step-mother Mattie of Bedford; his brothers, John (Deborah) Boyd of Halifax; Barry (Krista) Boyd of Vaughans; and Jim Boyd of Belleville, Ontario; and his sisters, Anne (Ron) Huestis of Bedford; Carolyn (Bill) Armstrong of Avonport; and Florence (David) Bartol of Bedford; as well as thirteen nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Margaret (May 21st, 2003); and his brother, Reg (April 9th, 1982).
Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor.
Visitation will take place 2-4 and 6-8 p.m, Monday, February 4th, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 5th, 2013, in St. George's Anglican Church, 2222 Brunswick Street, Halifax. A reception will follow. Interment will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, King Street, Windsor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Michael may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
