GATES-EDDY......

Nita Carmen Gates-Eddy, age 84, of Sweets Corner Hants County.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend on Saturday June 20, 2015. Such a special lady left behind many broken hearts.

Born on March 27, 1931, in New Ross, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Jessie (Leopold) Veinot.

Nita pleased many palates as owner-operator of Gates Canteen in Sweets Corner, a popular local retreat for ice cream and home cooked meals. She also worked for many years as a valued bookkeeper for Lawson Church’s garage.

Many hobbies kept her busy. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and swimming in her pool in summer. Her love of cooking and baking made her the ultimate grandmother. All who knew her knew of her love of shopping and her exquisite sense of style. She was always dressed to perfection.

She leaves behind her husband of 25 years, Brenton Albert Eddy; daughters, Elaine (Vander) Fougere; Trudy (Steve) Sheehy; and son, Derrick (Anne Northup); stepchildren, James (Patti) Eddy, Gail Eddy and Peter (Wanda) Eddy; five grandchildren she dearly loved, Melissa (Todd) Richard, Aaron Fougere, Ryan (Melissa) Sheehy, Brandon (Tara) Jodrey and Julian Fougere; seven great-grandchildren along with many special nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by first husband, Murvell Gates and loving daughter, Dena Jodrey. Nita was the last surviving member of her immediate family, predeceased by sister, Jean Galley; brothers, Murray Veinot, Beacher Veinot and Ray Veinot.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Jennifer for her loving care over the past months. Nita’s constant companions Sophie and Fred will miss her dearly.

Visitation will be held 7–9 p.m. Friday June 26, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel (902-798-2232) PO Box 2218, 194 King Street, Windsor, B0N 2T0.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015, in Newport United Church, Highway 14, Brooklyn, Hants Co., with Rev. Kevin Cox officiating. Interment will be held at the Ste. Croix Cemetery, Cemetery Road, St. Croix, Hants County.

Donations in Nita’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

To add your condolences, click on “Contribute” at, www.lindsaysfuneralhome.com
