<div itemprop="description">Former Hantsport Town Clerk and Treasurer <br /> <br /> <br />Joseph Donald McGinn &ndash; Age 86, of Hantsport, NS passed away after an illness surrounded by his loving family on March 25, 2016. Born in Halifax, Joe was the youngest son of the late Charles J. and Jessie (Stokes) McGinn. Joe was educated at St. Patrick&rsquo;s school and attended Saint Mary&rsquo;s University and Nova Scotia Technical College. <br /> <br />As the Town Clerk and Treasurer of Hantsport for 34 years (1963-1997) he filled many roles as town engineer, manager, administrator, computer expert, justice of the peace, accountant and counsel. He served on several boards in his community; the Hantsport Board of Police Commissionaires, the Hantsport Recreation Commission and the Hantsport School Board. He was involved in the inception and planning of seniors homes Dykeland Lodge, Windsor and Jubilee Lodge, Hantsport and served on their board of directors in many capacities. An active member of the community, Joe was distinguished as an honorary fire fighter by the Hantsport Fire Department. Additionally, he and his family supported and enjoyed the Hantsport Memorial Community Centre (HMCC). His passion for the town&rsquo;s history, industry and community never diminished. <br /> <br />Joe was a highly respected member of the community who made an impact on each and every individual he came into contact with. He was the devoted and loving head of a close-knit family who enjoyed spending lots of quality time together. In retirement Joe enjoyed life with his wife Fay and family on the banks of the Avon River. Wearing his rubber boots, he took great pride in tending to the vegetable garden they shared - with the large family vying for &ldquo;Grandad&rsquo;s perfect potatoes&rdquo;. <br /> <br />Joe is survived by his loving wife, Fay (Coolen) and 6 children, 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild: Joanne MacRae (Gordon), Charlottetown, PEI, grandchildren Jessica Robar (Lorin and great grandchild Addison), Emily and Duncan; Maureen Palmeter (Aubrey), Halifax, NS, grandchildren Margaret, Alex and Linny; Jane (Frankie DePeters), New Hampshire, US; Melinda Melanson (Eric), Bedford, NS, grandchildren Ryan, Janine and Kelly; Donald (Todd Saunders), Charlottetown, PEI, grandchildren Alexander, Morgan, and Mamie; Theresa Rose (Jeff), Moncton, NB, grandchildren Aidan, Brendan, Tyler; his sisters, Rose and Helen (Harvey); sister-in-law, Madeline all of Halifax, NS. <br /> <br />Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Charles and Eugene. <br /> <br />There will be no visitation. <br /> <br />The funeral will be held Wednesday March 30, 2016 at 11:00 am in St John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Windsor, NS with a reception to follow at the Churchill House, HMCC in Hantsport. <br /> <br />In lieu of flowers, donations in support of the Hantsport Memorial Community Centre would be kindly appreciated, or make a donation at the reception that will follow the funeral. <br /> <br />( To add your condolence click on &quot;contribute&quot;) <br /></div>
