GARLAND......

Garland, Janice Marguerite, age 86, of Windsor/Hantsport, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at the Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, where she was a resident for the last three years.

Born on July 3, 1929, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late George and Jean (Ward) Arenburg.

Janice began her working career in Baddeck as a caregiver, waitress and cook. She was a very hard worker. Janice and Whitfield had a farm in Baddeck Forks. Fifty four years ago they packed up and moved to Hantsport with their five children. She worked at CKF Inc. for nine years, and after leaving that job, she started taking care of children, for families in and around the Hantsport and Windsor area.

Janice raised a lot of children or at least had a part to do with lots. The families that employed her knew they never had to worry about their children as they were in good hands. “That they were”. Janice loved to cook and there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t try to make. You never left her place hungry and if you did it was your own fault. Lots left with care packages.

Janice had a big heart and would give you the shirt off her back, but she took no bull either. She said it how she saw it and if you didn’t like it, oh well, “they would get over it”, she would say.

The U.C.W. was a big part of her life. She loved to put her name on the list to bake something. Al-Anon was special part of her life. Janice really enjoyed all the trips away and all the people she would meet. She was there for anyone who needed someone to talk to.

Before her hands started to go, she really enjoyed knitting. The homemade knitted socks were the best going. Very durable. She made her share of dish cloths that she would sell to make extra shopping money. She loved to shop. Whitfield would get a great laugh when he would come out to the car to help. She would say to him “What”. God love her, she loved her shopping trips. She was a very special person who is going to be missed but now is where she wants to be and that is with her husband and son.

Janice is survived by her children, Jean Fowler, Windsor; Louise (Frank) Egan, Petrolia, Ontario; John (Rae), Three Mile Plains; Dorothy (Michael), Dartmouth; Doug (Shelley), Lockhartville; Donald (Wanda), Bog Road; David (Angie), Bog Road; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Jessie Langdon, Windsor; several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, George and Jean (Ward) Arenburg; she was predeceased by her husband, George Whitfield Garland (2014); son, George Murray Garland (1979); sisters, Donna Connors and Beatrice “Penny” O’Sullivan.

A Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016, in the Avon United Church, Hantsport, with Rev. Beth Johnston officiating. Interment will be held in the Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport.

Donations in memory of Janice may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

To add your condolences, click on contribute at, www.lindsaysfuneralhome.com
