MOUNCE......
Ida Mae Mounce (Harvey), age 92, of McKay Section, Hants County, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, June 3, 2016.
Born on June 18, 1923, at Grand Elm Farm, McKay Section, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late J. Murdock and Fannie (Dill) Harvey.
Ida trained as a nurse at the Payzant Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Windsor. Upon graduation, she completed additional training at the Shriner’s Hospital in Montreal. She was a care-giver all her life. Ida’s nursing career spanned many years, including working for Dr. Garnet Turner’s office and as an operating room nurse at Payzant Memorial. She was Director of Nursing at Beaverbank Villa for several years before returning to Windsor to become Nursing Director for the residents of the Nova Scotia Freemasons Home.
Even after retirement, Ida continued to provide care to friends and family. She was a kind, compassionate, and generous person who would be there for anyone in their time in need. She enjoyed making knitted creations for her family, baking delicious pumpkin pies, and entering handicrafts and baked goods at the Hants County Exhibition.
Ida is survived by her son, Will (Cathy) Mounce, McKay Section; granddaughters, Dr. Tanya (Tyson) Wood, Liverpool; Alisha Mounce, Windsor; Laura Mounce, Corpus Christi, TX; grandsons, Evan (Laura) Mounce, Calgary, AB; Austen Mounce, and Lynden Mounce, McKay Section; great granddaughters, Jadyn Mounce, Windsor; Lilia, Alena and Mayah Wood, Liverpool; sisters, Irene Harvey and Ella Harvey, McKay Section; brothers, Howard (Beverley) Harvey, and Rod (Linda Benedict) Harvey, McKay Section; sister-in-law, Mary Harvey, Martock; nieces, Leslie (Richie) Hamilton; Sarah (Garry) Hart, Martock; Genevieve (Tim) Rissesco, Dartmouth; Carolyn (Ron) Crawford, and Melissa Harvey; grandnieces and grandnephews.
Besides her parents, Ida was predeceased by her husband of 31 years, Bruce (1988); sisters, Annie Harvey and Winnifred “Winnie” Harvey; brothers, Harold, Herman and Willard Harvey.
Arrangements are under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, B0N 2T0. There will be no visitation by request.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016, in the Newport United Church, Brooklyn, with the Rev. Kevin Cox officiating. Interment in the Maplewood Cemetery, 1186 King Street, Windsor.
Donations in memory of Ida may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Newport United Church, Heart & Stroke Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.
