SHERMAN......
Howard “Howie” Frederick Sherman, age 75, of Lower Vaughan, Hants County, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, with his family by his side.
Born on October 14, 1939, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Howard & Jean (Hart) Sherman.
Howie started work at the young age of 13, in his grandfather Freeman Hart`s Sawmill. He later went to work at the plaster mill in Windsor, he then decided to go to Halifax to work in carpentry until his retirement. Following retirement he started his own small wood cutting business, selling and cutting firewood for a number of years. He loved hunting season and going to his camp with his brother Bill, where many hunting stories were told about the big buck. In his younger years, Howie was well known for his hockey abilities, having played for the Salvation Army hockey team, being known as the super star hockey player, a,k,a. “The Rocket”. He also played baseball, loved playing darts and bowling. Howie was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who will be missed by all of his family and friends.
Howie is survived by his wife of 27 years, the former Donna Jean Skipper; his children, Bruce (Beth) Sherman, Cogmagun; Betty (Brian) Oickle, Lockhartville; Joan Sherman, Dartmouth; Dianne (David) Ling, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; Leonard (Arlene) Sherman, Ashland Road, Martock; Bonnie Sherman (Martin), Baxter’s Harbour; Michael Flynn, Vaughan; Jamie (Bronson) McDow, New Ross; numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; brothers, William “Bill (Sandra) Sherman, Windsor; Douglas (Cathy) Sherman, Vaughan; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Howard & Jean (Hart) Sherman; he was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Sherman; brother, Clarence Sherman; sisters, Lena Church and Kathy Zinck.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, B0N 2T0.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor John Zinck officiating. A reception will follow at the Lower Vaughan’s Fire Hall, 1884 Highway 14, Lower Vaughan. Burial will be held at a later date, in the Vaughan’s Community Cemetery.
