COTTENDEN......

Harry Roland “Roll” Cottenden, age 86, of Garlands Crossing, Hants County, was the son of John Henry Cottenden and Elizabeth Irene (Curry) Cottenden of Truro; and brother to William “Bill” Cottenden (deceased); and surviving sister, Joyce Cottenden Young.

Born on August 7, 1930, in Truro, Nova Scotia, Harry passed away after a short stay in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, on the morning of Wednesday, September 14, 2016, after a brief and valiant fight with cancer.

Roll decided it was time to weigh anchor and sail new and distant seas. Roll was a 29 years member of the Royal Canadian Navy, during which he sailed the globe, serving his country and family, and retiring at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. Roll then put his skills to use as a correctional officer, serving at both the Windsor Jail and the Burnside Correctional Facility for a time. Roll finally retired to engage in some well-deserved and long overdue family and leisure time. His passions were hunting, fishing, the outdoors, and sailing.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Cottenden (Greenlun); his three children, Vance, Janice, and Lorna; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
We love you Granddad, and though our hearts are broken, we know we’ll see you again.

All the love.
