<div itemprop="description">WOOLAVER...... <br> <br>Frank Nelson Woolaver, age 93, of Newport, Hants County, died early on the Sunday morning on the first of January, 2017, of Alzheimer’s disease. He was in the home he had lived in since birth, surrounded by caring loved ones. <br> <br>Frank was a graduate of King’s College School (King’s Edgehill), the Agricultural College at Truro, and McGill University’s Macdonald College, where, in the 1940's, he studied the techniques of modern farm management. A number of the friends he made in those years remained his closest friends for life. <br> <br>Frank had a wide range of interests that rewarded effort and concentration, including bridge, bird watching, cross-country skiing, and singing in the church choir. Like so many people of his generation, he respected hard physical work and didn’t complain about it; for decades, he rose at four for milking, taking one day off every two weeks. <br> <br>He kept bees for most of his life, including his years at Macdonald College, when he had a hive in his dormitory room with a window cracked for the bees to fly in and out. <br> <br>Frank respected education, and he valued the scientific knowledge of farming he had been so fortunate to obtain. He diligently applied principles of animal breeding to build up a herd of cattle that in the 1970's made his farm the province’s top milk producer. <br> <br>He married Beth Mason in 1955, and they were happily married for 61 years. They had two children, Kathy and Avard, who both live in Nova Scotia. Frank loved photography, cycling, hiking, and going for Sunday drives and then stopping for ice cream. He loved singing until the last and remained able to belt out “The Tennessee Waltz” until his final few weeks. <br> <br>In middle age, he became an alert and curious traveler, taking interesting trips with Beth: bicycling in China, driving through Australia, hiking the Chilkoot Pass, camping in Iceland, or bird watching in Antarctica. <br> <br>His daughter, son, daughter-in-law, five grandchildren, and many friends will miss him always but feel that his death came at a good time. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by family members who had come home to spend Christmas with him. He was predeceased by his parents, Eva Emeline (Currie) and Avard Stanley Woolaver; and by four sisters, Elizabeth, Margaret, Ruth, and Bertha. <br> <br>Visitation will be held 6-8 pm Thursday, January 5, 2017, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, NS, B0N 2T0. <br> <br>Funeral service will be held at 2 pm Friday, January 6, at St. James Anglican Church, Brooklyn, Hants County, with the Rev. Tom Henderson and Rev. E. E. Hill officiating, followed by interment in St. James Parish Cemetery, Brooklyn. <br> <br>Memorial donations may be made either to St. James Anglican Church in Brooklyn or to the David Suzuki Foundation, which, among other efforts, works on bee conservation projects. <br> <br>To add your condolences, click on “Contribute”. <br> <br> <br></div>
