<div itemprop="description">KELLAND...... <br /> <br />Dr. Allison Lewis &ldquo;Lew&rdquo; Kelland, BA, BEd, DDS (Major ret&rsquo;d), age 93, of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2014, in the Camp Hill Veterans&rsquo; Memorial Building, Halifax. <br /> <br />Born February 8, 1921, in North Sydney, Cape Breton, to the late Laura (Lewis) and Allison Kelland. <br /> <br />His family moved to Canso in 1925, where Lew grew up. Lew entered the Canadian Army during the Second World War. After the war he graduated with a BA from the University of New Brunswick (1948) and married Eleanor Anne Sherk of Simcoe, Ontario. In 1949, he graduated with a BEd from Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick. He moved to Fredericton and became the Deputy Fire Marshall of New Brunswick. He then attended Dalhousie University Dental School and graduated in 1954 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery. He served as Dental Officer on military bases in Canada and Europe; (Stadacona; Centralia, Ontario; Langar, England; Baden Baden, Germany; Richmond, British Columbia; and Borden, Ontario), as well as on the HMCS Quebec. Lew also served one year as Senior Dental Officer with the Canadian Army UN Expeditionary Force in Rafah, Egypt. His last posting was Greenwood, NS. He retired from the Armed Forces in 1976 to a farm in Torbrook Mines, where the family had gardens and raised cattle, horses and bees. Lew had a private dental practice in Kingston, from which he retired in 1982. In 2001, Lew and Eleanor moved to the Gladys Manning Retirement Apartments in Windsor to be close to family. Lew was an active member of Hants County Branch #9, Royal Canadian Legion, Windsor and also Ionic Lodge #73, in Middleton. <br /> <br />He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor (Sherk). <br /> <br />He is survived by his sister, Naomi (Clyde) Markham, Kingston, Ontario; his children, Alison Kelland (Derek) Wells, Chester; Jeremy Kelland (Anne), Brooklyn, Hants County; and Laura (Robert) May, Ottawa, Ontario; grandchildren, Jason Giovannetti, Sarah (Christopher) LeBlanc, Kyle Giovannetti (Vanessa), Lindsay Kelland (Keighl), Gillian Kelland (Jake), James Kelland and Alexander May. <br /> <br />The family wishes to thank the staff of 5 West, Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, Halifax, for the wonderful care. <br /> <br />Cremation has taken place. <br /> <br />Friends and family are welcome to take part in a Memorial service to be held at the Lindsay&rsquo;s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor (B0N 2T0), with the Rev.
