FRASER

Donna May Fraser, age 84, of Enfield formerly of Windsor, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 5th, 2013, at home.

Born on May 24th, 1928, in Windsor, Nova Scotia, to her much loved father, Alexander Robert “Ted” Reid MD and mother, Helen Sweet (Watson) Reid.

Donna married George William Brooks Fraser from Wolfville in 1948 and embarked on their journey through life. George’s career in the Canadian Army took them across Canada and back again - moving almost every year until they finally settled back in Donna’s home town of Windsor, Nova Scotia. Many times over the years Donna was left to raise the growing family on her own while George was away on duty. When George retired from teaching they moved to Grand Lake. Donna – a strong, beautiful, intelligent and inspiring woman had a way of making all who spent time with her feel special. She enjoyed the finer things in life – whether it was a single beer shared on a night out with George in the early tough times - or enjoying chowder in jeans after a day at Bayswater beach – or dressed to the nines (she turned heads) in an officer’s mess or a fine restaurant. Donna enjoyed her beautiful home and loved to entertain family and friends (with flair and maybe a cocktail). Her Siamese cats, Ho Chi and Minh gave her joy and love on good days and bad. How do you put a life so full and rich into a few lines? Donna held the hearts of a large and extended family.

She was very proud of and close to her five children, Alexander Robert “Ted” (Barb) Fraser, Dartmouth; Lina May Fraser, Bedford; Donna Lee (Brian) Taylor, Windsor; Rodney Earl (Kim) Fraser, Newmarket, Ontario; Robert Brooks (Mary-Anne MD) Fraser MD, Enfield. She loved visiting her grandchildren and watching them mature, Leslie Fraser (Russell Amero), A. Robert “Bob” (Lindsay) Fraser, Cristian (Alicia) Taylor, Nicholas (Lisa) Taylor, James “Jay” Fraser, Sophie Del Fraser and Deanna May Fraser. Her six great-grandchildren delighted her, Alexis, Morgan, Reid and Taylor Amero, Marissa and Riley Fraser. “The Muskox Circle”.

Donna was predeceased by her husband, George (2003), brother, Robert “Bob” Reid, sisters-in-law, Pat (McLean) Reid and Pauline (Fraser) Jarvis; brother-in-law, Chet Jarvis. Her grandmother, Ida May (Huntley, Zwicker, Watson) Chase who played a major role in Donna’s early years.

A special thank you to Dr. Iain MacNeil who watched over her like a son giving her hope and comfort, also to Lina, Rod and Kim who devoted the last several months to mother, and all the family and friends who were there for her in so many ways.

A gathering for family and friends to share memories and stories of Donna’s life will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, February 8th, 2013, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, Windsor. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Donations in Donna’s memory may be made to the IWK Health Centre Foundation, 5855 Spring Garden Rd, Ste B220 Halifax, NS B3H 4S2 or a charity of one’s choice.

Add your condolences by clicking on Guestbook/Share.
