McGrath, Q.C. </em> </u> </b> </p> <p> <b> &nbsp; </b> </p> <p> <strong> Daniel Joseph McGrath, Q.C., age 74, Berwick, Kings County, died peacefully at home, Saturday, September 8th, 2012, surrounded by his family. &nbsp; </strong> </p> <p> <strong> </strong> </p> <p> <strong> Born on March 12th, 1938, in Toronto, Ontario, Dan was raised in Peterborough, Ontario, moving to Hantsport, Nova Scotia at the age of 12, with his parents the late Ronald and Mary (Costello) McGrath. </strong> </p> <p> <strong> </strong> </p> <p> <strong> Dan will be sadly missed by his wife, Sandra &ldquo;Sandy&rdquo; Jane (Redden); daughter; Allison McGrath, Truro, NS; son, Peter (Sabrina) McGrath, Trenton, NS; stepdaughter, Karla (David) Smith, Berwick, NS; stepson, Jeffrey Bezanson, Berwick, NS; grandchildren, Noah McGrath Currie; Trent McGrath; Joel and Jennifer Smith; Shayla Brydon; his sister, Mina &ldquo;Mary Ann&rdquo; (Peter) Meagher, Halifax and their two children, Christine &ldquo;Myna&rdquo; and Michael. He is also survived by his former wife, Ann (Birkett) McGrath, Wolfville, NS, and Dan&rsquo;s lifetime best friend, John Yogis Q.C., Halifax. </strong> </p> <p> <strong> </strong> </p> <p> <strong> He attended Saint Mary&rsquo;s High School and then University in Halifax where he graduated with his B.A., and then Dalhousie Law School where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1965. In the same year he was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar. Dan practiced law in Windsor, NS from 1965 through 2002. He was appointed a Queen&rsquo;s Counsel in 1982. Dan&rsquo;s passions included his religion and politics. He was a tireless worker for the Liberal Party at both the federal and provincial levels. He was past president of the King&rsquo;s Hants Liberal Association, and ran as a Liberal candidate in the Hants-West provincial riding in 1981. In 2003, he was honoured by the party for his years of dedicated service. Dan was also Past President of Family and Children Services of Hants County, and a life member of the Windsor &amp; District Rotary Club. Dan was a devout Roman Catholic and following his retirement pursued courses in religious studies at the Atlantic School of Theology. Dan had a wide range of interests &ndash; reading, current events, travel, theatre, music, film and TV, home cooking (especially sweets) eating at good restaurants, and trains. His many friends will remember a man of integrity, high ideals, and a willingness to help others. </strong> </p> <p> <strong> </strong> </p> <p> <strong> Visitation will be&nbsp; 6:30 - 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 11th, at Lindsay&rsquo;s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. </strong> </p> <p> <strong> </strong> </p> <p> <strong> Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 12th, 2012, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 339 King Street, Windsor, with the Rev. Father Michael J. Walsh officiating. A private family committal service will follow at St. John&rsquo;s Parish Cemetery, Wiley Ave., Windsor. </strong> </p> <p> <strong> </strong> </p> <p> <strong> Family flowers only.
