TRAVES......

Charles C. (Chas/Charlie) Traves, age 87, formerly of Dartmouth and Sussex, NB, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth, Hants County, after a lengthly illness. Born in Minto, New Brunswick, on November 23, 1926, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Scott) Traves.

Charles worked in Moncton for many years with the NB Telephone Company, working his way up from the cable yard to telephone repairman, telex repairman and then to Manager for the St. Stephen, NB area. Charlie returned to Saint John to work in the security division of the company, an area he thoroughly enjoyed and retired from in 1981. Following his 38 years with the telephone company, he retired to the Sussex area and in 1992 relocated to Dartmouth. An avid fisherman, many days were spent in the Sussex area casting a line amid meandering streams in search of his favorite brook trout. Large stories and even larger fish will remain to entertain and delight those of us left to remember the great times at “The Camp”. A love of fast cars, gardening to feed the deer and the exploits of his four grandsons kept him interested and focused in his later years. His grandsons were always foremost in his thoughts and a great source of pride and entertainment throughout their developing years.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Catherine Walton, Calais, Me.; son, David (Beryl) Traves, Dartmouth; grandsons, Michael Walton, Brian (Andrea) Walton, their sons, Bradley and Parker, all of Calais, Me.; Brad (Jacklyn) Traves, and their son, Nathan of Ottawa, Ontario; Steven (Lesley) Traves, and their children, Hannah and Carter of Eastern Passage; brother, Wesley (Gerry) Traves, Riverview, New Brunswick; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, the former Katherine Jean Carpenter; sister, Molly; brother, James; son-in-law, Tom Walton and niece, Marilyn Coleman.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, NS – B0N 2T0.

Cremation has taken place.
