Barbara Ruth Loomer (nee: Hood), age 85, of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017, at the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth.
Born on March 7, 1932, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Margaret (Underwood) Hood.
Barbara graduated from the Windsor Academy, class of 1950, and then did her nursing training at the Payzant Memorial Hospital, Windsor, graduating from the class of 1953. She was a registered nurse for over 42 years, at the Payzant Memorial and also the Hants Community Hospital. She was a member of the former Juniper Grove United Church Choir for 50 years and also a member of the Church Bell Choir.
She is survived by her daughters, Kim Loomer, Three Mile Plains; twins: Dawn Black, and Gail O’Leary (Harold MacKenzie), Falmouth; grandchildren, Jade (Devin) Johnson, Greenwich; Troy Lang, Three Mile Plains; Tristan O’Leary, Falmouth; Jeslyn O’Leary, Edmonton, Alta.; sisters-in-law, Hope Fraser, Wolfville; Jocelyn (Herb) Kruger, Kitchener, Ont.; brother-in-law, Bruce (Judy) Loomer, Truro; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Gordon Loomer (2011).
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 16, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, NS, B0N 2T0
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Interment in the Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Town Road, Falmouth.
